Project Attributes Concept Design
Where do we even start on this beautiful gem? Although Art Deco, the existing stunning timber wall panelling & picture rails throughout, screamed ‘Arts & Crafts’ style to us. After a little bit of research, our clients in Bamfield Street, Sandringham, agreed & let us roll with our ‘vision’. The blinds, light fittings and other décor all are symbiotic with this lovely style, mostly sourced from the US. The house oozes a warmth & elegance that has been respected throughout the whole transition. The detailed & accurate manufacture of the cabinetry throughout shows the brilliance of our favourite cabinetmaker, an artisan skill that has been lost on most.
This sophisticated old red brick Brighton beauty located in Church Street, needed to be paid the respect she deserved. Our client brief was to make the whole space function better. We made the dining space more sociable & comfortable and restored the classical ambience after having a dysfunctional, identity crisis in the 90s with a contemporary kitchen that didn’t fit in space or context. She’s much happier now!
Now, this quirky (and gorgeous) Scottish couple wanted something a little different for their Mentone beauty. They have a collection of beautiful artwork & curios that they had acquired from all over the world. These special pieces needed the perfect backdrop that didn’t take over. They also required a functional space with as much accessible storage & bench space as possible. We opened up the area as much as possible and featured every mod-con available whilst choosing a door style & door furniture to give the kitchen a dose of extra personality.
It was a pleasure to work with such a lovely, warm client who loves to cook and feed people; (a girl after my own heart & true to her Italian roots). The problem was her existing kitchen was completely separated from the rest of the sociable areas. Whilst measuring the Sandringham space, we also realised that the existing walls were solid brick. It was worth a try to see if we could scrub back the bricks. They have added a rustic charm to the space not possible with standard splashbacks. The new space has an open, sociable layout which is more conducive to relaxed family gatherings.
One of our specialties is trouble shooting existing working drawings for a client just before their builder starts. They know they need interior design help but they are also worried that they may not have enough storage space. In this case we completely re-jigged this St.Kilda East home. This in including the ensuite to fit in a walk-in robe that is now double the size. We completely re-worked the kitchen space to fit in the butler’s pantry that they were told was not possible. Completely changing the wet areas upstairs to fit in a separate powder-room along with a bath. We always recommend a bath in a house for re-sale, (never with a shower over the top if you can help it). Throughout this house, we added sneaky storage in task-oriented areas. This gave every item its own storage place and helping this busy family home to stay tidy.
