About Us

Who is Key Piece?

Key Piece Interior Design is a unique Interior Architectural & Design practice. With almost 50 years of combined experience & knowledge, we are very grateful to have a huge referral base of amazing clients who have become, over the years, like family to us.

We design every project as bespoke & original, staying away from ‘cookie cutter’ & ‘on trend’ processes used by other design companies. What sets us apart from others is that we never work in our own taste, instead guiding our clients to fulfilling the best version of theirs.

Our full focus is on our client, intuiting their needs through a concise & lengthy briefing session, understanding & honouring all of their idiosyncrasies. With our extensive experience, the ability to listen deeply & using keen intuition, we rarely need to make amendments to projects after we present them, as we never finish our first briefing session until we feel extremely confident moving forward to the design stage.

Jo-Anne is now working multi-generationally, often modifying homes for clients she worked for up to 30 years ago & now for their children too. She completely understands the fickle nature of ‘trends’ & how to design with longevity, in regard to both quality & style. She is conscious of change, perspective and innovation, with designers in the Key Piece studio spanning several generations.

We will advocate for our client from the earliest conception stage, throughout the whole building process, to completion. We will be present & transparent, always ensuring the highest quality design documentation & workmanship undertaken by our carefully selected tradesmen, liaising whenever necessary. Our aim is to make the whole process streamlined & most importantly- FUN!

As part of the services we offer, we project manage the majority of our jobs and because of this, we have a team of extremely competent & loyal tradesmen that work with us here at Key Piece. Some of our clients have even been happy to hand over their keys, go on a holiday and return to their completed dream renovation. We recognise our role as being quality control, as well as support throughout the process. We understand it can be overwhelming.

As Interior Architects, our specialty has always been accurately designing & detailing custom joinery including:- award-winning kitchens & bathrooms; well-equipped laundries; cosy studies & ergonomic home offices; grand libraries; entertainment units; beautiful fireplaces; well-fitted robes and other specific interior design detailing.

We also confidently & completely reconfigure existing houses, often flipping spaces & redetermining the flow throughout to work more functionally. We optimize storage cleverly wherever we can & justify all of our recommendations. We design practically for all clients, not just magazine covers.

We also rework building plans for clients, where they often contact us in a panic, not feeling comfortable to move forward with their build, but not knowing why. We are brilliant trouble shooters & can suggest changes, helping our clients to avoid costly mistakes. We don’t just refurbish, we alchemize. We see it finished. We see you living there, most importantly ‘how’ you are living there, before the tradesmen even start.

We work within all styles, ranging from detailed Classical to 20th Century vintage, through to minimalist contemporary. We remain on the cutting edge of all new technology, including all products & services within the building industry.

Our drawings and specifications are very thoroughly detailed, accurate, beautiful and easy to read by both client & tradesman.

We also have years of experience with colour, soft furnishings and finding ‘Key Pieces’ of furniture, lighting and décor items for our clients. We will make sure all of your favourite pieces of furniture, art & other possessions will be sensitively integrated into the new design, sometimes designing around these precious pieces from the outset. We are equipped to work with you from concept to completion, whether it is a whole house or a simple room.

We are the ‘Key Piece’ in your renovation & building puzzle. We are adaptable, patient, dedicated, passionate, organised and always respectful of our clients’ needs. We can alleviate the stress by filling in the void between client & builder, pulling the whole process together within a proven system.
